The SOS PRODEHESA MONTADO Project held a new edition of its technical conference dedicated to Multispecies Rotational Grazing Management, a meeting that took place between APORMOR and Herdade São Luís, in Montemor-o-Novo, and brought together producers, technicians and collaborating entities from the territory.
The aim of the activity was to foster knowledge transfer, promote sustainable management practices and bring participants closer to real experiences applied in agricultural and livestock farms in the dehesa/montado system.
A day focused on practical learning
The session began at APORMOR, where an institutional welcome and an initial presentation were given. The attendees then moved to Herdade São Luís for a guided technical visit, which allowed them to observe various innovative practices related to pasture and livestock management in the field.
The topics covered included:
- Presentation of the SOS PRODEHESA/MONTADO Project by partners ACTYVA S. Coop. and APORMOR.
- Rotational management of breeding sows, showing its impact on grazing efficiency and animal welfare.
- Direct sowing under pivot, as a strategy to optimise soil and water management.
- Cattle management in multi-species systems, with a focus on pasture regeneration and productive sustainability.
- Debate and final conclusions, where participants exchanged experiences and reflections on the current challenges facing the sector.
Commitment to the sustainability of the dehesa/montado system
The conference reinforced the importance of regenerative management, cooperation between local stakeholders and innovation as keys to moving towards more resilient, sustainable and economically viable agricultural systems.
