CICYTEX: Innovation and sustainability for the agroforestry sector

The Centre for Scientific and Technological Research of Extremadura (CICYTEX), a body of the Regional Government of Extremadura, plays a key role in scientific and technological research applied to the agri-food and forestry sector. Its work is aimed at promoting innovation and sustainability in these sectors, in line with the objectives of the SOS ProDehesa Montado project.

CICYTEX is made up of four institutes that address different areas of knowledge and development:

  • Institute of Agricultural Research ‘La Orden-Valdesequera’: Specialised in improving the productivity and sustainability of the agricultural sector.
  • Instituto Tecnológico Agroalimentario de Extremadura (INTAEX): Focused on the transformation and quality of agri-food products.
  • Institute of Cork, Wood and Charcoal (ICMC): Leader in research on non-timber forest products, such as cork.
  • Centre for Ecological and Mountain Agriculture (CAEM): Recently incorporated, it works on sustainable agriculture in mountain areas.

Through these institutes, CICYTEX generates applied knowledge that benefits both the countryside and the agroforestry industry. Its participation in the SOS ProDehesa Montado project reinforces the commitment to the preservation of the dehesa-mountain pasture and the search for innovative solutions to the challenges of climate change and sustainability.
