Ever since she was a child, her grandfather told her about the dehesa. He spoke about its trees, its animals, the people who work there and a way of understanding and managing the land that has been passed down from generation to generation.
Now, those memories become the starting point of a journey.
This is how Minutos para la dehesa begins, a new audiovisual series promoted by SOS PRODEHESA MONTADO within the Interreg Spain-Portugal (POCTEP) programme, inviting audiences to discover the dehesa and montado through a close, human perspective rooted in the territory.
A journey to discover what lies behind the dehesa and montado
The series follows a young woman who decides to experience for herself the landscape her grandfather spoke about so often.
Through her encounters, questions and experiences, we will gradually discover what the dehesa and montado really are and how these complex agroforestry systems function.
Throughout the journey, some of the essential elements that shape and sustain these landscapes will come into focus:
🌳 trees
🌱 pastures and vegetation
🐂 livestock
💧 water and soil
🦅 biodiversity
👩🌾 and, above all, the people, their knowledge and their experience.
Understanding the dehesa and montado means looking at the system as a whole and recognising the relationships between all these different elements.
The first episode: the journey begins
The first episode of Minutos para la dehesa marks the beginning of this story.
The memories and stories shared by her grandfather awaken the protagonist’s curiosity to discover a territory that, until now, had mainly been part of her family memories.
Her desire to see the dehesa for herself becomes the starting point of a journey in which she will learn from the people who live and work there, discover its values and understand some of the challenges shaping its present and future.
