Within the SOS ProDehesa Montado project, we highlight the fundamental role of UNAC – Union of the Mediterranean Forest, an entity that represents forestry producers in the Mediterranean region of Portugal.
Since its creation, UNAC has focused on developing a technical-political strategy aimed at:
- Transferring knowledge between research organisations and end-users, such as forest owners and managers.
- Disseminate project results, facilitating the adoption of innovative practices in the sustainable management of forest ecosystems.
UNAC’s experience extends to the coordination of R&D projects, with a special focus on cork oak forests, a key element of the dehesa-montado system. In addition, they have led high-impact initiatives such as:
- Organisation of seminars, workshops and demonstration sessions, promoting training and technical updating.
- Publication of specialised technical material aimed at owners, managers and other actors in the forestry sector.
UNAC’s participation in SOS ProDehesa Montado is essential to ensure the transfer of knowledge and the implementation of good practices that promote the sustainability of the dehesa-montado system.
