The dehesa and the montado, at the heart of the action: Objectives of SOS ProDehesa Montado

The SOS ProDehesa Montado project emerges as a key strategy to guarantee the sustainability of a unique ecosystem of the Iberian Peninsula: the dehesa and the montado. Its main purpose is to ensure the long-term viability of these agroforestry systems by addressing the challenges that threaten their equilibrium.

The main objectives of the project include:

  • Encourage forest regeneration: Promote the recovery of essential plant species such as holm oaks and cork oaks, which are fundamental pillars of these ecosystems.
  • To train producers and managers: To provide specialised training in innovative and sustainable techniques for the balanced management of natural resources.
  • Promote innovation and valorisation of traditional products: Strengthen the market for products such as cork, wool and other derivatives, guaranteeing the profitability and sustainability of agroforestry farms.

With a collaborative approach that brings together partners from Spain and Portugal, SOS ProDehesa Montado transforms challenges into opportunities for sustainable development. This project not only strengthens biodiversity and the rural economy, but also protects the region’s valuable cultural heritage.
