The University of Évora, within the framework of the SOS PRODEHESA MONTADO project, has opened applications for the microcredential “Geographic Information Systems for Montado Management”, a specialised training course designed to strengthen skills in the use of geographic tools applied to territorial planning, analysis and management.
Geographic Information Systems (GIS) have become essential tools for understanding territories, organising spatial information and supporting decision-making in areas such as forestry, agriculture and environmental management. Their use makes it possible to integrate different types of data, analyse the distribution of resources and represent territorial realities clearly and effectively.
This microcredential offers a practical approach to the use of these tools in the context of Montado and dehesa systems, helping professionals and technicians develop useful skills for the sustainable management of these agro-silvo-pastoral landscapes.
Tools to analyse and manage the territory
Throughout the course, participants will develop knowledge and skills related to spatial data management and editing, territorial characterisation, the organisation and analysis of geographic information, map production, and the use of GIS to support planning and decision-making.
The training will also show how spatial information can contribute to more accurate and efficient territorial management by supporting the analysis of natural resources, land use and other factors relevant to the sustainability of the Montado.
Training for territorial management professionals
The microcredential is particularly aimed at technicians, managers, landowners, consultants, agroforestry professionals, researchers and students interested in incorporating geographic information tools into their professional activities.
The course will be delivered in a b-learning format, in Portuguese, and has a duration of 8 weeks / 3 ECTS. Sessions will take place on Wednesdays and Thursdays, from 14:00 to 18:00.
Applications open
Applications will be open from 8 to 19 October 2026.
The training will run from 4 November to 9 December 2026 and offers 25 places.
This microcredential provides an opportunity to gain practical knowledge in the use of geographic technologies and apply it directly to the sustainable management of dehesa and Montado systems.
