ACOS – Agricultores do Sul: A pillar in the development of the livestock sector

Within the framework of the SOS ProDehesa Montado project, we highlight the work of ACOS – Agricultores do Sul, a non-profit association that brings together 1,800 livestock farmers in the southern region of Portugal.

Since its foundation, ACOS has been dedicated to providing extensive technical and training support to its members, contributing to the sustainable development of the agricultural and livestock sector. Its main activities include

  • Specialised technical services, aimed at improving the productivity and sustainability of farms.
  • Professional training in key areas for the sector.
  • Animal health, ensuring the welfare of livestock.
  • Veterinary and chemical laboratories, offering advanced analysis.
  • Support for animal marketing, facilitating the connection between producers and markets.

In addition, ACOS has a strong Research and Development department, responsible for managing and preparing applications for funding programmes, as well as transferring innovative technologies to its members.

The ACOS technical team is composed of highly qualified professionals in areas such as veterinary medicine, agronomy, crop and livestock production, ensuring a complete and quality service for its members.

ACOS’ participation in the SOS ProDehesa Montado project reinforces the shared commitment to promote the sustainability and resilience of the dehesa-montado system, contributing to the well-being of rural communities.
