Innogestiona Ambiental has accumulated vast experience in projects related to dehesa-montado, extensive livestock farming and Mediterranean woodlands. In this context, it has supported participatory processes with key actors of the dehesa-montado, has diagnosed key innovation needs in economic sectors linked to these systems, has registered a patent for an intelligent cistern designed in response to key problems identified in the dehesa-montado, has implemented and promoted the transfer of good practices aimed at the sustainable use and regeneration of these systems, has promoted the training of key agents of the dehesa-montado, etc. It has also accumulated extensive experience in the management of European projects.

The research carried out at the MED, both fundamental and applied, seeks to solve problems arising from practice and increasingly relies on close interaction with the community. The sustainability of agricultural, forestry and agroforestry production systems and associated ecosystems is the objective of the R&D unit of the MED – Mediterranean Institute of Agriculture, Environment and Development. MED was rated Excellent in the last International Assessment of Research Units. It brings together 180 high-level researchers in Évora, Beja and the Algarve, i.e. throughout southern Portugal. It also coordinates the Associated Laboratory on Global Change and Sustainability, CHANGE, with more than 300 researchers.

UEx has extensive experience in international cross-border cooperation projects (POCTEP, SUDOE), research (Framework Programme, Horizon) or environment (LIFE), among others. In the last decade it participated in more than 60 projects. In the previous POCTEP period (2014-2020), it managed 20 projects.
In 2019, the European Project Office was created for the preparation and management of international projects. It has a team of 11 people who are responsible for supporting researchers in the application and management of international grants. The EPO carries out the complete monitoring of the following INTERREG projects: expenditure processing, accounting follow-up, certification of expenditure, audits, project closure, etc.

They have translated and validated the ecological health index (within the GoDEHESA standard, Junta de Extremadura 2018-2021) to the dehesa context. They have also developed their own ongoing training programme for professionals in the agroforestry sector with a postgraduate course in collaboration with the University of Extremadura (Gestión Integral de la Dehesa) and accredited training in holistic management by the Savory Institute (since 2016). They have also developed various training programmes related to the qualification and revaluation of dehesa products such as wool. We collaborate assiduously with shepherd schools in Casar de Cáceres, Castuera and Diputación de Badajoz.

The Centre for Scientific and Technological Research of Extremadura (CICYTEX) is a public body with patrimonial, organisational and functional autonomy, of the Regional Government of Extremadura, attached to the Regional Ministry of Education, Science and Vocational Training. It is made up of the Agricultural Research Institute ‘La Orden-Valdesequera’, the Agri-Food Technology Institute of Extremadura (INTAEX), the Cork, Wood and Charcoal Institute (ICMC) and recently the Centre for Ecological and Mountain Agriculture (CAEM).

CEBAL has extensive experience in the analysis of next-generation sequencing data in genomics, transcriptomics and metagenomics, among others. It also has extensive experience in plant propagation using different methodologies. In addition, CEBAL has the necessary laboratory and computational infrastructures to allow the execution and analysis of the work to be carried out in this project.

APORMOR has a wealth of knowledge and experience in the agricultural sector (cattle and sheep) and in the montado system. It will therefore be able to support the project in actions to valorise products derived from the sector and in identifying the skills and knowledge needed to design relevant training courses.

It also benefits from the possibility of direct contact with many cork oak producers, which will be very useful in publicising the project’s results and good practices.

Unfunded partners

ACOS is a non-profit association of livestock farmers with 1,800 members geographically spread throughout the southern region of the country. It carries out various activities to support its members, such as technical services, vocational training, animal health, a veterinary and chemical laboratory and animal marketing support. There is also a Research and Development department that covers the various activities of the Association to support the management and preparation of applications for various funding programmes and the transfer of technologies to members.
The technical staff of the Association is composed of senior technicians with backgrounds in veterinary medicine, agronomy, crop production and livestock production.

UNAC – União da Floresta Mediterrânica represents the interests of forestry producers in the Portuguese Mediterranean area through a technical-political intervention strategy, but also through the transfer of knowledge between research organisations and end users – forest owners and managers, which will be a determining role in the future dissemination of the results of this project. She has extensive experience in coordinating R&D projects, particularly on cork oak forests, as well as organising seminars, workshops and demonstration sessions and publishing technical materials.

FUNPASOS es una entidad de custodia, que promueve procesos participativos que apoyen la transición hacia la sostenibilidad.
